Great approach to the Spanish language. September 1, 2010 Hlight81 I have taken many Spanish courses including those during high school, college and even Rosetta stone, none of which I was able to learn very much from. This book however "teaches" in a different way. It gives very simple, easy to memorize lessons instead of just vocabulary words. For example one of the lessons in the first chapter is that all words ending in al, or, and ble are the same in Spanish and English so these words mean the same in both languages. Time and effort are still required because you do need to memorize each lesson. At the end of each chapter there are helpful reminder cards that they suggest you copy onto index cards and look them over. What I like most about this book is that is teaches very simply the different verb tenses which is what I have had the most difficulties with in past classes. I would recommend this book to anyone who is trying to learn Spanish, it is very simple yet informative.
Fun Way To Expand Your Knowledge May 26, 2010 Thom (Indy, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this book. I made my first solo trip to Mexico in 1972. I knew a few verbs and spent the next six months learning Spanish out of necessity and by the seat of my pants. This book allows me to expand my knowledge of Spanish in a very fun way using what I already know. I'm going to Guatemala next month and cannot wait to use the new tools presented in this book.
Tip: You get much more respect if you do your best to use the language properly.
Perfect May 4, 2010 Andrew G. Lawson (Stanfordville, NY) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love the teaching style of this Spanish primer. It brings you gently but firmly, with plenty of exercises, to a real grasp of Spanish.
Unbeleivably GOOD! May 4, 2010 Liza Jane (Colorado United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
To say I was happy with this book is an understatement. It is unbelievably helpful. The author really does have some sort of magic in knowing how to teach Spanish not only in a very practical way, but a fun way! She just makes it simple. It's unlike any 'textbook' you'll ever purchase. You'll find yourself learning almost without being aware of it! You'll never be sorry you bought this book and like me, you'll be happy to recommend it to others wanting to learn Spanish. 5 stars indeed!
this is the best book I've come across! May 2, 2010 Robert W. (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had read good things about this book, and that is why I purchased it. However, this book has more than surpassed my expectations, and is brilliant!
The concept of learning the preterit-tense first is incredibly valuable, and is a nice change from learning six tenses of each verb under study (ie. the textbook method). The book is also interesting reading, and some of the conversations in Spanish are funny (Roberto es terrible).
This book is an absolute must have for anybody interested in learning Spanish.
