Great text for review of neuroanatomy basics July 30, 2010 Student I loved this textbook and used it for my first-year neuroanatomy class in medical school. I read the chapters in this text before attempting to study the materials that our professors had given us, and it helped every time. I highly recommend using it in this manner, i.e., to pre-study for the individual neuroanatomy lectures at your school. The chapters on spinal cord and brainstem lesions were particular standouts, as was the chapter on the thalamus. I ended up not reading every chapter but instead picking and choosing those most relevant to my studies.
Same as BRS Neuroanatomy June 8, 2010 M. Neahring (Metamora, IL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is nearly identical to the BRS Neuroanatomy. It is the same author and same publisher. You'll notice that chapters are nearly identical. The phrasing has been slightly modified in areas, but it has roughly 99% of the same content. The BRS has practice questions and answers at the end of each chapter, which the High-Yield does not. So, if you already have the BRS, don't waste your money buying this.
Some of the illustrations have the footnote "Reproduced with permission from BRS Neuroanatomy", which I couldn't figure out because the author and publisher are the same, so why would they need permission from themselves to duplicate their work?
Very concise review of the high yield concepts April 12, 2010 Rodney C. Land (usa) Very concise review of the high yield concepts. My professor covered all of the points in this book and then some. The book was a very good source to clarify complicated information that seemed to go "over my head" in class.
The best you can get. April 2, 2010 William Mcfadden (USA) This really is a little gem. It is easy enough for a beginner. Don't get me wrong, you will still need to spend a good amount of time learning the material, but this book is probably one of the best ways to supplement class notes. It is very, very brief and is filled with all the stuff that you need to know. It also makes an excellent review for USMLE step 1 because it is so brief.
Good Supplement February 7, 2010 Jerb (Florida) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book does a pretty good job reviewing the main concepts, plus it's a quick read, but it lacks a few details and clinical correlations that are important for the shelf and board exams. I recommend this only as a supplement, and not your main source for studying for an exam.
